The Lake Michigan Clipper Cup
2006 Results
The 20th running of the Lake Michigan Clipper Cup Yacht race, sailed under almost perfect conditions on Friday, August 11th 2006, was a great sail race. All boats that started the race, finished the race in record time. Bruce Geffen's catamaran, NICE PAIR, took line honors with an elapsed time of 7 hours 1 minute and 5 seconds. He was quickly followed by John Nedeau's Santa Cruz 70, WINDANCER, and the rest of the fleet came in smartly behind them in rapid succession. From the time of NICE PAIR's finish, until the last boat crossed the finish line, only 4 hours and 10 minutes had elapsed. All participants were safely in under ideal conditions (and before dark!). The wind and seas made for "a great equalizer" and corrected times were close. The partnership of Rick Gullen & Brian Kelly with crew on board SHOOTING STAR managed to take the Clipper Cup trophy and the J.C. Rillema Trophy, with the corrected finish 1st overall in the spinnaker fleet. The partnership of paul Neumiller & John Gallick with crew on board SUMMER NITE, took the top honors in the Jib & Main division along with the Bert Smith Memorial Trophy. The committee gratefully thanks all participants for competing in the 2006 Clipper Cup. (results follow)
